About JHC Mid-Atlantic
JHC Mid-Atlantic is a Baltimore-based consulting practice connecting sport, recreation, education, research, and organizational strategy. Founder
Joseph A. Hayden, Ed.D.
Joseph's career in recreation began in 2004 in Okemos, Michigan, where he saw how closely recreation and education are linked in community life. He has since worked in municipal and county recreation, campus recreation, and youth development, and has taught at Towson University, including a course in sport officiating, and at the Community College of Baltimore County. He has led his consulting practice, now JHC Mid-Atlantic, since 2007.
Joseph's doctoral research at Morgan State University examined how university-led and community-based sports programs align with equity and success in urban education for Black and Latinx youth. He is also an NCAA football official, and he works in both English and Spanish.

Approach
How the work is done
Built Around Operations
Recommendations are built around how programs actually operate, including staffing, facilities, budgets, and schedules.
Access by Design
Access and participation are treated as design questions, not afterthoughts.
Grounded in Evidence
Recommendations draw on research, documentation, and program data where they exist.
